Former Attorney General of Akwa Ibom State and Senior Advocate of Nigeria SAN, Chief Assam Assam has revealed the former governor of the state, Senator Godswill Akpabio, who just defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), left a debt of N500 billion naira for the present governor, Emmanuel Udom.
He stated this while responding to questions during a live programme Channels TV, Sunrise, on Thursday morning.
According to Assam: “Akpabio, as far as I am concerned, is a very insincere person. I have known him since he was in University of Calabar. I have also worked with him for several years. So, I can say a lot about him. He is very insincere”.
Speaking further, Assam said: “At the coming of this present administration, the debt profile of Akwa Ibom State stood at about N500 billion. Godswill Akpabio had owed Julius Berger about N58 billion. At a point, Julius Berger had locked the Ibom International Stadium, preparatory to an important match.
Concluding, he opined that: “Now, the money that Governor Udom Emmanuel gave to Julius Berger, the Company decided to redirect whatever monies they got from Udom to offsetting the debts Godswill Akpabio owed the company. I know all these because I was the Attorney-General.”
