Africa’s Youngest Billionaire, Mohammed Dewji abducted in Tanzania

The man said to be Africa’s youngest billionaire has been kidnapped by masked gunmen in Tanzania’s main city Dar es Salaam, police say.

Mohammed Dewji, 43, was abducted outside a swanky hotel gym where he was going for his routine morning workout.

According to reports, the 43-year-old mogul was walking into the Colosseum Hotel and Fitness Club in Oyster Bay, Dar es Salaam for his routine gym session during the early hours of Thursday, October 10, when two white men flanked by some accomplices in two cars accosted him, forced put him into the vehicle and zoomed off, Forbes reports.

Lazaro Mambosasa, the Dar es Salaam special zone police commander, revealed that security operatives in the country have been beefed up as the search for the criminal is underway. Mambosasa urged members of the public to report useful information that may help in discovering the whereabouts of Dewji’s kidnappers.

The well known victim is one of the top players in private sector-led development of Tanzania; he is also popular for being a leader in local employment and manufacturing in east and central subregions in the continent.

Dewji’s conglomerate, the METL Group, operates in over 35 industries such as trading, agriculture, manufacturing, energy, petroleum, financial services, mobile telephony, infrastructure and real estate, transport, logistics and distribution. He presently has a net worth of $1.5 billion.
