The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Abia State on Thursday met with members-elect of the Seventh Abia House of Assembly.

The party, during the meeting held at the state Secretariat in Umuahia, condemned what it termed as current attacks by hired agents of some members-elect against some others over Speakership of the yet to be inaugurated 7th House of Assembly.

In a communique jointly signed by Chief Johnson Onuigbo(State chairman), Chief Ibe Nwadioha (State Secretary), Rt Hon Bishop Njoku(Osisioma-Ngwa North) and Chief Emmanuel Ndubuisi (Bende south), which was made available to newsmen, they said the action of some members-elect was not in the best interest of the party.

According to the communique, “The State Working Committee(SWC), hereby, instructs that henceforth any Member-elect who is found to be sponsoring any hostile and(or) damaging post(s) on Social Media or any other medium, shall be disciplined accordingly.

“That any Member-elect that is interested in any position in the 7th Abia State House of Assembly is free to go about his aspiration but without creating any image problem for the Party by being unduly quarrelsome, especially using the Social Media,

“That the posts of Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Majority Leader and other Principal Offices in the 7th Abia House of Assembly are positions accruable to the Party and the Party, with due consultations with the Governor and Leader of the Party in the State; Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, Ph.D, will advise, at the appropriate time, on the distribution of the aforementioned positions, based on competence and equity.

“That PDP Members of the 7th Abia State House of Assembly will have close rapport with PDP in the State.

“And that at all times, PDP Members in 7th Abia State House of Assembly shall give maximum legislative co-operation to Governor Ikpeazu’s PDP administration”.

The State PDP, however, thanked the people of Abia, for their overwhelming support which ensured its landslide victory in the just concluded March 9 gubernatorial/House of Assembly election in the state.

The Speaker of the Abia House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chikwendu Kalu and the Majority leader and member representing Umuahia central, constituency, Hon. Chinedum Orji, both who were returned for second term, shunned the meeting.
